Propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, nicotine dosage… Faced with the multitude of products on offer, it is sometimes difficult to make your choice of e-liquid. Let’s try to see a little more about the different compositions of e-liquids that we are offered.
What is the composition of e-liquids for electronic cigarettes?
The composition of e-liquids varies according to brands and ranges. However, there are almost always two essential components:
Propylene Glycol (PG):
It is a chemical element belonging to the family of alcohols. Its name can be scary because it has a chemical sound and yet it is widely used in many sectors such as the food industry, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. It generally represents between 50 and 80% of the composition of an e-liquid. It allows for obtaining very pronounced flavours. Some e-liquids are completely devoid of propylene glycol.
Vegetable Glycerin (VG):
As its name suggests, vegetable glycerin is 100% vegetable. With a fairly viscous and odourless consistency, vegetable glycerin is also widely used in the food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. Regularly used in the composition of e-liquids, vegetable glycerin makes it possible to obtain very abundant vapour. It generally represents 20 to 50% of the composition. Some liquids, however, are made from 100% vegetable glycerin. We note that the latter offers a very abundant vapour with a less pronounced flavour.
Propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin are the two most used ingredients in the composition of e-liquids. The more you increase the dose of propylene glycol, the more the flavour will be pronounced and the vapour will be less abundant. Conversely, the more the vegetable glycerin is increased, the less the flavour will be pronounced but the more the vapour will be abundant. Depending on your preferences, you can find the balance that suits you between these two components among all the e-liquids offered on the market.
Among the different components of an e-liquid, we can also find:
Nicotine:
Depending on your consumption of classic cigarettes, you can choose the nicotine level that suits you.
There are 5 possible dosages:
0mg/ml : No nicotine 6mg/
ml*: Low amount of nicotine for light smokers, extra light cigarettes.
11 (or 12) mg/ml*: Average quantity of nicotine for the average smoker, light cigarette.
16 (or 18) mg/ml* : Significant amount of nicotine for a good smoker, normal/strong cigarette.
19.6 mg/ml*: High amount of nicotine for heavy smokers, strong or unfiltered cigarettes.
* 10ml bottle.
The presence of nicotine within the composition of e-liquids justifies the presence of safety pictograms. Indeed, nicotine is recognized as a stimulant and should not be used by minors.
Today most brands no longer use alcohol in their e-liquids. In the e-liquids in which it is found, it is only present in very small quantities, and generally represents less than 1% of the composition of the e-liquids. They have a fluidifying action but are not essential.
The aromas :
They represent an essential element of the composition of e-liquids since it is thanks to them that your vapour will have a flavour. The palette of flavours extends to infinity and the brands are doubling their inventiveness to offer ever more tastes from the most faithful to the most eccentric! You can now have the feeling of tasting a vanilla cream with Vanilla Custard, or even a Lemon Tart, savouring a delicious non-alcoholic cocktail with the Mojito Classic e-liquid or even a good dose of exotic fruits e-liquid. !
