To determine your quantity of e-liquid to consume per day, it is advisable to define your objectives of weaning and the type of vape that you seek, because this one will determine the material which you will need. In general, we are talking about 2 to 4 ml of e-liquid per day but this data is relative. In reality, it’s a little more complex than that because each vaping profile is different, as are each person’s weaning goals.

According to nicotine needs

You started vaping because you want to wean yourself off tobacco. Your amount of cigarettes smoked will initially tell you your nicotine needs. You can refer to the following indications, although these are quite approximate:

  • If you were a former heavy smoker (> 15 cigarettes/day), opt for an e-liquid with a rate between 12 and 18 mg/ml of nicotine or even the use of nicotine salt;
  • If you were a former good smoker (between 10 and 15 cigarettes/day), choose an e-liquid with a rate between 9 and 12 mg/ml of nicotine;
  • If you were a former standard smoker (between 5 and 10 cigarettes/day), we recommend a rate of 6 mg/ml of nicotine;
  • You were a former light smoker (< 5 cigarettes/day), favour a rate of 3 mg/ml of nicotine, or even directly an e-liquid without nicotine!

Of course, these equivalences are averages and do not take into account the specificities of each smoker. For each cigarette smoked, the amount of nicotine absorbed varies according to the volume of smoke inhaled, which is not the same for all smokers.

In short, the nicotine level chosen in your e-liquid will determine the quantity you will consume. For example, for a former heavy smoker, a low nicotine e-liquid will be consumed more quickly due to its low nicotine content. Conversely, a liquid with a high rate of nicotine, which is more “satisfying”, will be consumed less quickly.

Depending on the vaping material used

Between a mecha box (rebuildable) and an e-cig with clearomiser, the quantity of e-liquid consumed is not the same! The first material, more powerful, will require good quantities of e-liquid and will produce a more supplied vapour. But if you are reading this article, it means that you have just started in the vape and that you are using an auto e-cig with its clearomiser, which is more compact and less gluttonous. A quantity of 2 to 4 ml of e-liquid/day is mentioned for this type of e-cig.

Depending on the type of inhalation: direct or indirect

As a reminder, there are two types of inhalation in the vape: direct inhalation, where the vapour is inhaled directly, and indirect inhalation which consists of leaving the vapour in the mouth before inhaling part. This second technique requires more power, produces more vapour and therefore leads to higher consumption of e-liquid.

As you will have understood, the daily quantity of e-liquid you will need is determined by many criteria: nicotine level, the material used and type of inhalation. A shop assistant will tell you that your 10 ml bottle will last 1 week, for my part, I finish it in 4 days. With time, practice and with your clearly defined weaning goals, you will know your vaping profile precisely.
